I intend to appear for N2 this July. I study everyday for about 2 hours. I am concentrating more on dokkai, and when i read a new comprehension para i tend to make a note of all the words that i am coming across for the first time. This activity eats up a lot of time. I just want to know, whether studying in such a detail is necessary?
Or should i just ignore the new words and concentrate more on the overall meaning of the comprehension para?
I always preferred studying in detail because it gives me a sense of satisfaction but i am realizing that it is extremely time consuming.
people who have cleared N2 please suggest! |

You shouldn't spend too much time looking up every word you come across to see what it means. You will get a huge wordlist you'd need to revise to remember, including the words not being used outside the context.
On the exam you will come across words in the dokkai section you won't know the meaning of, so it's more important to get the overal meaning of the sentance instead. This way, you will get a global understanding of the context, and can sort of guess what the words mean by reading the kanji instead.
Also, speed is important, as there are a lot of texts including long ones. By trying to figure out each word you don't know, you will only lose time to finish in time for the dokkai section. |

For N2, i think u should spend more time on grammar and listening.
Grammar is something u can memorize whereas for Dokkai, you can't really memorize.
For Listening, it's more important in real life than Dokkai.
My 1 cent. |
