If a level 4 word has kanji that are not in level 4, how is it displayed in the JLPT? For example, is it 水曜日, 水よう日, or すいようび?
Thanks,

All 3!
I have a level 4 exam here, where it uses all kanji 「水曜日」and puts furigana at the top when first written, then without furigana for the remainder of the reading.
You will also see, as you may with any word, a complete removal of kanji, within the vocabulary section. That is, 「すいようび 」will be used.
I also have an exam here (2004) with the half-wit version (eg 「土よう日」). And even then, furigana is placed at the top of the kanji - even though you should know them. I suspect this is because it's so off-putting to see kanji half-used like that. |

You mean, for words of the vocab section there's no need to know the kanji? Just for those specified in the Kanji section?
Hm, that sounds logically, after all. I've learned all the kanji also for the vocab section...

Hi, I was really only using 水曜日 , or days, as a specific example.
In general... the vocab section contains very little kanji - to make sure you know the word without relying on the kanji.
But all the other sections use kanji from the list. If there's a kanji not in the list, they will normally put furigana on top. |
