赴く と 趣 (omomuku and omomuki)

私はウェッブページか小説を読むと「赴く」と「趣」っていう言葉が時々出てきます。
その言葉はいったいどういう意味かどう使う表現なのでしょうか。辞書で調べた説明はちょっと物足りないなので誰かが教えて頂けないでしょうか。

I'm taking the JLPT 1 in 2005, too! I took a mock test administered by a professor of mine in April and got a 79%, and have been studying abroad in Japan since then. Currently I'm studying for the 漢字検定２級, administered in mid-October. I've taken a LOT of practice tests for JLPT1 so I'm fairly confident I can pass, but I definitely need to review the grammar once more.

Regarding your 赴く・趣 question, although I'm no authority on the matter, here's my take:

「赴」の用例：　彼自らパリに赴いた　・　単身赴任
In most Japanese-English dictionaries it's translated as "to go, to proceed." つまり人・物・状態が所・方に向かって行くことです。単身赴任という単語を砕いてみれば、「単独で任地に行くこと」という解説が可能ですね。

「趣」の用例：　趣のある　・　趣旨
Even upon consulting a dictionary you don't get a very clear definition, but in my opinion "flavor" (I'm American so that's the way I spell it, hehe) is the closest match. If you look up words that include 趣 you can sort of get the idea, 趣旨、趣味、意趣、等々。曖昧な単語のニュアンスを把握する為に広辞苑で調べてみれば、「心の向くところ。人をそちらに向かわせる面白さ。」I don't know if this is a sufficient explanation, but anyway if you've seen it in literature you should have a pretty good idea already. Just think of it as 面白味.

I don't know why my email address didn't work correctly. Perhaps you tried to email to my msn messenger username which is actually only a username but not an existing email address.

I am very impressed by your score of 79%.. I currently can only dream of achieving a score like that.

Thanks for the explanation of the 2 words. As the words sounded similar I thought they were related, but i guess as they have different kanji they must be different in meaning. Although lately i learnt a word 省みる(かえりみる) which really sounds like a combination of 帰る and 見る although it seems to have a similar meaning of the 2 combined.

I didn't realise that 趣(おもむき) is actually from 趣味(しゅみ). hehe.
Well i guess it gives me a background to the kanji that make up 趣味

Thanks for posting your blog. I had to use rikai.com to read some of the kanji you used, but i think i am starting to become able to read it. I didn't really find any grammar errors and I think it's a really good way for me to improve my vocabulary.

One thing that had me thinking was the following line you wrote:
「Suicaカードで入金したお金を、駅で引き出ししようと思ったivanです」
It seems correct, but the 引き出ししようと思った bit seems a bit odd.. would you rather use 引き出そうと思った?

As i chatted to you before in msn, i know you made it for the application for the JLPT. I hope you can score a really high mark in the JLPT test.

I'm just hoping i can get over 70% :P.

Perhaps we can set up a japanese conversation thread in the general forum for everyone to participate in. I dunno what topic we should make it but i think i need to work on my Japanese composition at the moment, and writing in some sort of thread would be the best way to do it. Especially if i know someone is waiting for a reply. (That way i can't be slack 8) )
