If you hadn't written the words "level 3/4" in that post, I would have thought it was spam...
That is, I can get no meaning at all from the first sentence... ie what is "SAT", what has that got to do with "Vampire" etc. Maybe some extra context would help - and I don't want to seem harsh, but putting some effort into writing the post would inspire people to make an effort to respond. |

I'll guess he means novels that have been designated as appropriate for a certain JLPT level. Like those English novels with TOEFL ratings aimed at English learners. (SAT is the US university entrance exam; maybe in the US they have similar books for SAT studiers...)
Well, if that's the case, I'm not aware of any such novels and kind of doubt that there's any actual Japanese fiction that uses only the vocabulary, grammar and kanji from the level 3 or 4 specs. Manga and possibly some "young adult"-aimed stuff is within reason for roughly that level of Japanese ability, but I don't think it's particularly good preparation for the JLPT (filled with stuff you don't need to know, missing stuff that's common in the JLPT). By all means, read it if you like it...
If your aim is study, there are a lot of bilingual books around (at least, in Japan) -- they have Japanese on one side and English on the facing page and are aimed at learners. Kodansha publishes a series of them with a pretty broad range of subjects and language levels; I have one of Japanese traditional ghost stories which is pretty nice and probably suitable for someone ready to take the 3kyuu. Unfortunately you kind of have to flip through the books to get an idea of what level each one is written at. |

I can't speak for anybody but myself, but for me the point of all this is to learn to use and understand Japanese, and doing the JLPT is just a way to document my progress, such as it is.
Reading "real" texts of various kinds helps you imprint good, useful patterns of language use; stuff at a level above individual grammar points.
There's actually quite a bit of material available, not just manga. One is "留学生のための現代日本語読解", which is a collection of short stories at (accrording to my teacher) a level suitable around and after level 2.
"Read Real Japanese" is another one, with again real short stories, but this time sorted by difficulty. The first one is fine for someone well under way studying for level 2, and gradually increases. Thsi book has a lot of explanatory notes, especially for expressions used. |

Yeah sorry - sometimes we get spam where people just write random stuff or include some website they're trying to advertise. What I mean was, your post was so unintelligible to me, that I honestly thought it was some random spam message. I think it's a combination of the SMS generation and some US-specific stuff I've never heard of.
I'll just chill out |
