I want to do as many past exams as possible, but I can't seem to find them anywhere on the internet. Does anyone know where to get them? Does anyone have papers for the last 10 years or so? I'm willing to pay a fair price.

Try this site:
http://jlpt.info/

You'll have to register first. The tests can be done online or printed, but if you want to download the files, there seems to be a credit that you have to gain before you are able to download the files.

Hope this helps.

I'd like to download the tests, but I'm having trouble navigating the site. Are you sure there are several years of past papers? I could only find sample questions from 2 years.

Ideally, I'd like to get hold of the JLPT 2 papers from the past 10 years, but it seems very difficult to find them anywhere. Any ideas?

Wasn't there an exam revision in 2004? If that's the case, exam papers from the past 3 years will be the most useful.

Well, that would be nice, but I just can't find any papers at all. It's frustrating not being able to get hold of past papers. If anyone reading this knows anyone who has some past papers, or knows where to get them, I'd be really grateful if you could ask. I just want to practice the test format. Why is are the papers such a closely guarded secret?

You can get all the past level 2 exams from 1991 until 2006 for free at http://jlpt.info/jlpt/forummessage.do?m_id=193, but you have to register at http://jlpt.info/ first, as eastmaels already said. You can also buy them in book form with a CD.

Just buy the books. You really need the CD:s to practice the listening test anyway.

I'm not sure where you are located, but if you're in the US there are three good websites to purchase exam materials: japanshop.com; sasugabooks.com; and whiterabbitpress.com

I've got to second the recommendation for Sasuga books. Before they closed their brick and mortar shop I would go there frequently to browse. The owners are lovely people, but have had to shut down their physical store because rent in Boston is just horrifically high. The owner has also been more than happy to order in anything I wanted that he didn't have in stock already.

I looked at the Sasuga Books store and it seems to have some very good material. Any specific book recommendations? Maybe one or two books with as many tests as possible?

thanks for all the advice

Hi robrobbery,

Not sure what the problem was with http://jlpt.info/, but here's a sample http://jlpt.info/jlpt/jlptexamine.do?year=2006&level=2

The audio for the listening section is embedded on the page.
If you're using firefox, you need to install the Apple Quick Time plugin.
If you're using IE, i think it will use Windows Media Player by default.

The complete list of papers are also here:
http://jlpt.info/jlpt/i_JLPTLinksArray.jsp

Hope this helps. If you're still having problems, just post back.

I get the same message when I try to register. I'm starting to think they only accept non-web-based email addresses, ie no Hotmail, Yahoo etc.

If anyone out there has managed to register successfully, did you have to put in another, non-web-based email address?

Rob

I've taken a look at the questions and answers on that site last time when i was studying and just wanted to let you know, that I remember some tests on that site had inaccurate answer sheets for some of the tests as some have been made up by that community rather than being the official answers. I think there were a small percentage of mistakes in the answers.

I am not sure if that is the case now though as it may be fixed.

Still, keep that in mind when studying using them that that answer that you got wrong, may not really be wrong and vice versa.

I just tried to log in and it seems I have registered. At the time, I got that same error message and never received a notification that I had actually registered. Try going back to the site and logging in under the names you tried.

I think you're right about there being some errors. I've only done 1991 and 1992 but already I think I found some mistakes in the answer sheet on the JLPT site. I have a different copy of the exam and answers, and they do contradict each other in places.

However, I don't think it matters that much. Even with a few errors here and there, doing the tests can still give you an idea of what your level is and what you need to study more.

I've heard that the JLPT has gotten steadily more difficult since the early days. Not sure if that's true, I guess I'll work my way though the tests and see.
